BY FOOT

The beautiful South Downs makes several walking routes possible to arrive at the South Downs Show on foot. We have highlighted three of our favourites below - check them out and see how you can plan your weekend around a hike! We have focused on Petersfield area, but see what you can find from your town or village as well.

From Petersfield, 6.4km
This straightforward route follows the cycle path connecting the town to QE Park.

Shipwrights Way
More challenging than the others, this cross-country route involves some hills. The Shipwrights Way runs from Alice Holt Forest to Portsmouth, passing through Liphook, Liss, Petersfield, QE Park, Finchdean, Staunton Country Park, and Havant.

The Hangers Way
This scene route runs from Alton to QE Park and passes through several places including Steep, Petersfield, and Buriton.

BY BIKE

Cycling to the South Downs Show is a great way to start the weekend and is a fun activity for the whole family. Reward yourself on arrival with a coffee or a hot snack for breakfast! The fastest way to cycle from Petersfield is along the designated cycle paths. From Petersfield Railway Station, follow Lavant Street (south/south-east) or Station Road (heading east) to join National Cycle route 22, also part of the Shipwright's Way. Then follow this south towards QE Park. Half way along The Causeway the NCN 22/Shipwright's Way turns off left. Continue straight ahead south to pick up the new route to QE Park that follows the A3 along a traffic-free path. In this way, the steep scarp slope above Buriton is avoided. For a more scenic route, Shipwright's Way is also suitable for bikes.
